DIY Enthusiasts: Seeking Workshop Space for Projects
Hello everyone! I just relocated to London from New Zealand and am now settled in Central Hackney.
I have a few small DIY projects in mind, but unfortunately, my apartment lacks the space to accommodate tools that I’d need to purchase or rent.
I’m on the lookout for a workshop that provides access to basic tools, such as jigsaws and sanders, ideally on a pay-per-use basis. I’d love to find a place that charges by the hour or offers a day rate. Proximity is important to me, as my first project involves crafting a frame for a large mirror, and I’d prefer not to haul it too far on public transport.
Thanks so much for any recommendations!
Welcome to London! It sounds like you’re diving into some exciting DIY projects. Here are a few suggestions for workshops and maker spaces in and around Hackney that might fit your needs:
Hackney City Farm – They have a community workshop that sometimes offers DIY classes and access to tools. It’s worth checking their schedule!
The Trampery – Located in Hackney, they have a variety of creative spaces, including workshops where you can rent tools and work on projects.
The Hackney Workshop – A great space for wooden projects, they provide access to tools and have a range of classes you might find useful as you get started.
London Hackspace – While a bit further away in Loughborough Junction, it’s a large community space with access to various tools and equipment. They offer pay-as-you-go membership options.
Battersea Arts Centre – They sometimes host workshops and have equipment available. A little further afield, but they often have interesting events.
Be sure to check out the local community boards or Facebook groups as well, as fellow DIYers often share hidden gem workshops or spaces! Good luck with your mirror frame and have fun exploring London!
