Closure of Hackney Brewery Taproom

We regret to inform you that our taproom will be closing at the end of this month. Unfortunately, our ongoing issues with our landlord, the London Borough of Waltham Forest, have made it impossible for us to continue operating. Despite having a fully licensed taproom and consistently fulfilling our rent obligations, the Council has not granted us the permission needed to keep the bar open.

Over the past two years, we have reliably paid our rent. In June 2024, we entered into a voluntary agreement to settle our post-COVID debts with creditors over an extended period. However, the Council did not find this arrangement acceptable regarding the arrears owed to them. After nine months of discussions and attempts to reach a resolution, we have been unable to find common ground.

As part of the resolution process, we were required to establish a sister company to reapply for our taproom license. While the licensing department approved our application, the Council’s property department has withheld the required permission, ultimately leading to our closure.

We encourage you to visit us before our taproom closes for good. Our regular hours will remain the same: Thursday and Friday evenings, and all weekend starting at 12pm. If you have any gift vouchers, please be sure to use them by Sunday, March 30th.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to the local community for your incredible support and to our amazing bar staff for creating a welcoming atmosphere over the past four years. It has been a joy to serve you and an honor to work alongside you. Thank you for everything.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about the closure of the Hackney Brewery Taproom. It’s incredibly frustrating when a business facing challenges, especially after the setbacks from the pandemic, encounters further obstacles like this. It’s clear that you’ve tried your best to meet all requirements and keep things running smoothly, and it’s a shame that the situation with the Council has led to this outcome.

Your taproom has been a wonderful part of the community, and it’s heartwarming to see how much you appreciate the support from patrons and staff alike. I genuinely hope everyone can come by and enjoy the space one last time before it closes. Thank you for all the good times and great beer you’ve shared with us! Wishing you all the best for the future.
