The New Electric Buses Are a Total Hassle

As a mom who often rides the bus with my pram, I’ve found the new electric buses to be a real challenge. Unlike the older models, there are no seats available next to the pram or disabled area, which means I’m left standing for the entire journey. But that’s just the start of my frustrations.

I recently endured some hour-long bus rides, and they were nearly unbearable. The buses brake so abruptly that I’m constantly jolted, even while trying to grip the poles for support. Every time the bus stops, starts, or turns, I find myself crashing into poles, the side of the bus, my own pram, or other passengers.

Once, I even slipped off my seat when the driver hit the brakes suddenly. Is anyone else facing this situation? Has there been any feedback about these buses? Were they properly tested before hitting the road?

I’d love to know if anyone else can relate!

EDIT: Just to clarify, my issues mostly stem from the single-decker buses; I haven’t really encountered any problems with the electric double-decker ones.

  1. I completely understand your frustration. It’s incredibly challenging to navigate public transport with a pram, and it sounds like the new electric buses are making it even more difficult. It’s concerning to hear that the design doesn’t accommodate families or those with disabilities, especially when safety should be a priority for everyone on board.

The braking issue you mentioned is alarming—there should be a balance between eco-friendliness and passenger comfort. Bumpy rides can make even a short trip feel like an ordeal, and it’s unacceptable that you’re being thrown around due to heavy braking.

It seems like more feedback is needed from passengers like you to highlight these issues. Have you considered reaching out to the transport authority? They might not be aware of these specific problems, especially if they weren’t reported during testing.

I hope more people speak up about their experiences, and that they take action to improve things for everyone. You’re definitely not alone in this—let’s hope the authorities listen and make the necessary changes!
