I really dislike walking around London with a camera. Using an SLR makes you a target for unwanted attention, and some people act like jerks. Just because I have a camera doesn’t mean I’m open for mockery. I often get approached by aggressive individuals, and it feels like they think I’m a threat just because I’m taking photos.
The other day, I was trying to snap a picture of a beautiful 2003 Land Rover Discovery when a guy from a nearby shop came out to confront me. Seriously, just let me enjoy my hobby in peace.
And taking photos at night is nearly impossible if you need to use a flash; people assume you’re trying to invade their privacy.
Just a heads-up, I’m a Londoner. It would be nice if folks could be a bit more understanding.
I can totally understand your frustration! It’s really unfortunate how some people react when they see a camera. It seems like there’s a stereotype that photographers are up to no good, which is totally unfair. Everyone should be able to enjoy their hobbies without feeling threatened or judged. It sucks that you can’t capture the beauty of the city without facing negative reactions.
Maybe trying a smaller camera or a different lens could help? Sometimes blending in can make it easier to do what you love without drawing unwanted attention. And yeah, it would be great if people could just be a bit more understanding. Hopefully, you still find moments of joy in your photography despite the challenges!
