Investigating the Avocado Situation in the UK: Quality Concerns and Market Dynamics

As a devoted avocado enthusiast, consuming one avocado daily has become a staple of my routine. I typically select them from any supermarket that’s convenient, yet over the past six months, I’ve observed a noticeable decline in their quality. The avocados I encounter now seem to fall on two extremes: they are either excessively hard and unyielding or overly ripe to the point of being mushy. Striking a balance between these extremes has become increasingly rare.

Additionally, the size of the avocados has diminished substantially, with many barely surpassing that of a satsuma. Despite being marketed as “ready to eat,” these assortments seldom meet this promise, adding to the growing frustration. Most retailers market them as part of a “deal,” offering two per pack, but their inadequacy remains glaring.

This observation leads me to question whether there are underlying factors contributing to this apparent shift in avocado quality. Could there be disruptions in the supply chain influencing imports, or perhaps challenges faced by farmers in the regions from which these avocados originate? As a consumer reliant on consistent quality, it is disheartening to witness this fluctuation. I would be interested to hear insights from industry experts or those familiar with the intricacies of the avocado market. Is there anyone out there who can shed light on what might be happening behind the scenes in the avocado trade?
